Firefighter Scott Ballance was also awarded a Letter of Commendation from the Macon Fire Department for his actions on December 11th, 2010.

On December 11, 2010, at 2:48 am, the Macon Fire Department was dispatched to the report of a structure fire at 1001 Overbrook Drive with possible victims trapped inside the structure.  Upon arrival of the fire department, heavy smoke was issuing from the structure.  Police officers and EMS were with a victim in the front yard and we thought our trapped victim had already been rescued.

As the firefighters were preparing to fight the fire, members from the police department informed us that a victim was still trapped inside the structure and gave us a location on where the victim was possibly located.

With little regard for his own safety, firefighter Scott Ballance entered the smoke and heat filled structure without the protection of a hoseline or the assistance of another firefighter to rescue the victim.

After firefighter Ballance successfully retrieved the victim from the structure, he handed the victim over to EMS personnel, who transported the victims to Columbia Mo for further treatment.
