The Macon Fire Department was organized in 1872 and is made up of a combination of full time career and paid reserve firemen. We have 8 full time personnel in the capacity of a Fire Chief, Assistant Fire Chief, 2 Captains and 4 Engineer/Firefighters and we have 12 paid reserve firefighters. We have 3, 24 hours shifts with 2 men on duty and the eighth man picks up the vacation days and other days. The Fire Chief works Monday through Friday. At this time our primary job is fire education, fire inspections, and suppression.
In 2015 the Macon Fire Department responded to 380 calls, that included everything from medical assist, service calls (odors and citizen assists), vehicle accidents, to residential and commercial structure fires.
